Dr. Harrison received his B.A. and M.A. in Psychology from the University of
California, Santa Barbara and his Ph.D. in Social Psychology from
the University of Michigan. In 1967, he joined the faculty of the
Department of Psychology at the University of California, Davis,
where he is currently Professor. Author or co-author of over 70
published papers in a wide range of journals, his six authored or
co-authored books include Individuals and Groups, Understanding
Social Behavior (1976), Living Aloft: Human Requirements
for Extended Spaceflight (1985), From Antarctica to Outer
Space: Life in Isolation and Confinement (1991), and After
Contact: The Human Response to Extraterrestrial Life (1997).
He is currently applying his expertise in social and organizational
psychology to a new textbook on the psychology of space exploration
and settlement. Dr. Harrison has served his campus as Chair of the
Department of Psychology, Faculty Assistant to the Chancellor, Executive
Associate Dean of the College of Letters and Science, and (currently)
Director of the campus-wide Internship and Career Center. He is
a Director of CONTACT, a Regent of United Societies in Space and
Deputy U.S. Editor of Systems Research and Behavioral Science.
