Jim Whinnery, M.D., Ph.D.
Dr. Whinnery is currently Manager of the Aeromedical Research Division at the Mike Monroney Aeronautical Center: Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. He received his Ph.D. in physical chemistry and a M.A.T. in teaching chemistry at Texas Christian University followed by a M.D. from the University of Texas Medical Branch, Galveston. For ten years he was at the USAF School of Aerospace Medicine followed by ten years as Chief Aeromedical Scientist at the Naval Air Warfare Center. Dr. Whinnery is a Chief Flight Surgeon
with more than 1,000 flying hours in fighter aircraft. His research has been in fighter aviation medicine with emphasis on acceleration neurophysiology and cardiology. He is considered an expert on +Gz-induced loss of consciousness. Dr. Whinnery has published over 200 technical articles, several book chapters
and has lectured and taught internationally. He is a graduate of Air War College and a Fellow of the Aerospace Medical Association, the American College of Cardiology and the American Institute of Chemists. A Major General in the Texas Air National Guard, Dr. Whinnery has numerous military decorations and has received the Lyster Award and twice been awarded the Tuttle Award by the Aerospace Medical Association.
