Eyewitness 4 Testimony
Interview with Eyewitness 4 conducted by NIDS July 19, 2001
Re: Carteret, New Jersey Sighting of Orange Lights July 15, 2001
NIDS: Do you have any idea what the lights may have been?
EW 4: I can't even speculate. I know what it wasn't.
NIDS: What?
EW 4: It wasn't meteors or airplanes.
NIDS: Did you get the impression that it was one object with a lot of little lights, or just a lot of independent little lights?
EW 4: No, I think they were independent of each other. I counted at least twenty, but I could be one or two off on that.
NIDS: Did any of them seem to move in opposite directions?
EW 4: Only at the very end before I lost sight of them. They started out in a "V" formation.
NIDS: Was it a perfect "V"?
EW 4: It was pretty close. Then they broke into a circle. And after that they seemed to go their own way and dissipate.
NIDS: Did they all dissipate one at a time, or all at the same time?
EW 4: No, it was the same time, it was very simultaneous.
NIDS: There has been some speculation put forward that it could have been lanterns supported under balloons, or something. That seem outside the realm of possibility to you?
EW 4: I don't see how that's possible. As far as I know in this area from what I've been watching on the news and reading in the papers, nothing came down, Newark Airport is still denying radar activity.
NIDS: How high do you think they were?
EW 4: I would guess maybe between 3,000 and 5,000 feet.
NIDS: Do you think it was a little lower than normal air traffic might have been traveling?
EW 4: My house is on a direct path with Newark Airport. I'm pretty used to the air traffic. And one thing I noticed after it happened, like for an hour and a half, there was no air traffic over my house. It was like they diverted everything.
NIDS: Were you at your house when you saw this?
EW 4: Yes, I was in my backyard.
NIDS: Did you hear anything at anytime before you saw these lights?
EW 4: There was no sound at all. No.
NIDS: Like, maybe an hour before, that caught your attention?
EW 4: No. One thing I forgot to mention was that the first couple of lights were a different shape than the other ones. They were shaped like a diamond.
NIDS: The individual lights were shaped like diamonds?
EW 4: Yes, and they were white. The trailing ones seemed to be like gold and round. It was only like the first three, like the ones in front of the "V". I don't know if that's important or not, but I thought I'd bring it up.
NIDS: Well, yes, it is important. Actually it is because nobody else has mentioned that.
EW 4: But all the other ones seemed to be the same behind. It was like they were leading the thing.
NIDS: OK, did they appear any bigger of smaller than the others?
EW 4: No, they were roughly the same size.
NIDS: Now, the remaining ones, what general shape were they?
EW 4: Uh, they appeared to be round, the trailers.
NIDS: And how long did you observe them for altogether?
EW 4: It was moving very slow, so I would say close to five minutes.
NIDS: Alright. We appreciate this.
EW 4: I don't know if I was any help.
NIDS: Very much so.
EW 4: Ok, nice talking to you.
NIDS: Thanks for calling back.
