Eyewitness 8 Testimony

Interview with Eyewitness 8 conducted by NIDS July 21, 2001
Re: Carteret, New Jersey Sighting of Orange Lights July 15, 2001

EW 8: Hello?

NIDS: Hello.

EW 8: Hi.

NIDS: Hi, I didn't get your name.

EW 8: My name is EW 8.

NIDS: EW 8-?

EW 8: Yes.

NIDS: Okay EW 8, what I'd like to do...I guess you've probably figured out what I'm trying to do.

EW 8: I...you know what? I almost feel like I'm going to almost repeat...I feel bad because.

NIDS: That's fine. We are researching this incident, and the more information we have, even if it's repetitive, helps us get the point a little better of what it is we're dealing with here.

EW 8: I'll tell you what, it was pretty. A beautiful sight.

NIDS: I need to advise you that I'm recording, and I only do that so we prepare a transcript later and make an accurate report.

EW 8: Okay.

NIDS: We're not reporters...

EW 8: Mm-hmm.

NIDS: ...but we may post your transcript anonymously on our web site.

EW 8: Mm-hmm. Okay.

NIDS: Just wanted to let you know. First of all, why don't you just tell me exactly from beginning to end what...what it was all about, and then I'll probably ask you some questions after.

EW 8: Okay.

NIDS: Okay?

EW 8: [Inaudible] that we were coming home from north heading towards Carteret on the turnpike and as we got very close to our exit-we didn't make it to Exit 12 yet, but it was very close to it, and I had...I don't know what happened. I happened to be looking up and I saw this arrangement of lights, very unusual. And I knew that was not the norm. And I mentioned this to my husband and my daughter, I said, "Look at that arrangement of lights up there. What the heck could that be?" Well my daughter was the first one to look up because her husband was driving, and she says, "Wow, that is...that is something unusual.", and with that, we were coming closer to Exit 12, and as we were getting off the exit, and we said, "Pull...", and we were trying to tell my husband, pull into the parking lot over there so he could actually look up and see it. We said, "You have to look at this.", and we wanted to slow down, and actually take it in because it was so unusual, that when we stopped and we were looking up, it was this cluster of lights. It was like, my daughter said, almost a circular arrangement, but not complete circular. It was like, you know, off a little bit, but more like a circle type of a thing. And, it was...it was really phenomenal looking. It was beautiful looking. It was like this amber glow and we were thinking they were stars. We were thinking, wow, these must be stars up there, very, very bright stars. And as we were looking at them, very slowly, a few of them were coming down. As they came down, it was almost like maybe one on one side and one on another side, very slowly at a...one at a time. As they were coming down, they were fading out, and I guess by the time they got...it's so hard to tell the distance, but it looked like maybe they got a few feet from the big cluster. They completely faded. And they were doing this slowly, one at a time. And then very few of them were going to the left and the right with that. They weren't all coming down straight. Some of them were kind of going out left and right with the same effect. Very slowly going out and as they were moving out they were fading. And we're just watching this, and it was just amazing to watch it because, as my daughter had mentioned, we...we thought maybe they were shooting stars, but we were saying we never saw so many together, and you know, we were trying to come up with so many different things. And of course we did say, "You think it may be UFO's?", and then we kind of laugh. And it was like, "Oh, I don't think so.", but, you know, we just had no idea. Um, within, I'd say maybe between 5 to 10 minutes, they were going out one at a time, and between 5 to 10 minutes, I'd say there was...if you looked up in the sky, you saw nothing. They just completely all faded.

NIDS: Okay.

EW 8: But not at once, you know? They were going like, slowly one at a time fading. It wasn't like they all of a sudden went out, this whole big circle.

NIDS: Do you think these could've been flares?

EW 8: No. To be honest with you, who am I to say that...I don't think they could've been flares. Not...I have seen flares in the air before, to be honest with you, and unless this was the tail end of a flare or something I haven't seen-I have never seen anything like this before, and I have seen flares. Just the way this was positioned, the way this was just so pretty, the way they were doing slowly, I don't think so, but I'm certainly not an expert.

NIDS: Well, that's a theory we're working on, and...

EW 8: Okay...

NIDS: ...I just can't...we're just not at the point yet where we're ready to...

EW 8: [Inaudible].

NIDS: ...determine...

EW 8: Like I said, I'm not certainly not an expert to talk to so I wouldn't know, but to me personally, it did not look like flares now, from the flares I have seen previously. It certainly didn't look like anything [inaudible] that.

NIDS: Did you...did you notice any atmospheric traces such as smoke or sparks?

EW 8: No, I didn't see any smoke and I didn't see any spark, to be honest with you. It was just like I said, there were these lights, and they were just kind of there and just moving very slowly and...and fading. That's basically what...I mean, when they were there, they were there for awhile before they started moving-what we saw. I don't know how long they were there total.

NIDS: You mean they were hovering?

EW 8: Yeah. Yeah.

NIDS: Was there any sound?

EW 8: No, not at all.

NIDS: [Inaudible-cut off] where you were located, as you watched them?

EW 8: Well, when we were coming from the turnpike, we were looking straight. You know, it was up, but straight. Then when we came off the exit, we were in the parking lot, it was like, toward our left. It was...it was up, straight up. Basically the whole time it was up.

NIDS: What compass direction is that?

EW 8: Uh, I would say north.

NIDS: Okay.

EW 8: Matter of fact we [inaudible-cut off]...our house. They were staying over, and the next morning when we told them, we were describing it as this beautiful arrangement. We said we don't know what it was, we were telling them, we said we think it might've been shooting stars. We were explaining...I was saying how pretty this was. I said I'd never seen anything as pretty as this.

NIDS: What was the weather like?

EW 8: The weather was beautiful. It was a very clear night. We were coming home from a wedding, so I remember exactly and I didn't have a jacket. It...it was very nice, clear night.

NIDS: That's all the questions I had. Is there anything else you can add?

EW 8: I don't think so. I think that about covers it, to be honest with you.

NIDS: Alright, I think so too. I appreciate you taking the time to talk to me. I do need to get a little bit of statistical information.

EW 8: Sure.

NIDS: Could I get your current age?

EW 8: I am 53.

NIDS: And your occupation?

EW 8: I'm teacher assistant.

NIDS: Address?

EW 8: Did my daughter give you hers? *************

NIDS: Yes, I think that's what she gave me.

EW 8: Carteret, yes. It's the same.

NIDS: Okay.

EW 8: Okay?

NIDS: Same phone number?

EW 8: Yes it is.

NIDS: The only thing I neglected to get from your husband was his age.

EW 8: He is 54.

NIDS: Yeah, that was good.

EW 8: Okay.

NIDS: And that's...that's the...the organization I'm with, the National Institute for Discovery Science.

EW 8: Okay. [Inaudible-cut off]

NIDS: We're a science organization but we research UFO's, but we do it scientifically.

EW 8: Well, you know, you can't rule anything out is my theory.

NIDS: Well I...I thank you. I appreciate you taking the time, all of you...

EW 8: No problem, I just...

NIDS: ...for taking the time to talk to me today, taking time out of your weekend.

EW 8: I hope we could've helped some way.

NIDS: Well, thank you.

EW 8: It's just something unusual. It was like...it was...it was beautiful.

NIDS: If...if there's anything else you can think of, you might take a look at our web site, or I can give you my...well, let me give you my phone number.

EW 8: Yes. I was just going to say that that would be fine. Your name and your phone number again?

NIDS: My name is NIDS.

EW 8: Mm-hmm.

NIDS: And the phone number is 702-798-1700.

EW 8: 1700?

NIDS: And I work afternoon and evenings, but if...if you should think of something, you could speak with anyone here.

EW 8: Okay, great.

NIDS: And do you have access to the internet? [Gives out NIDS web site] In fact, we have our preliminary research paper posted on our web site about this case...

EW 8: Oh, really?

NIDS: ...with some other testimony we've...we've already taken and do you have any object to us putting yours up on our website? We do it anonymously, just as you'll see the others are there.

EW 8: No, not at all.

NIDS: Okay. How about your husband and your daughter? Do you think they would mind?

EW 8: If you could hold on one second, I'm sure it would be no, but let [inaudible].

NIDS: Okay.

EW 8: No, they have no problem with that.

NIDS: Okay, now we'll...

EW 8: My husband just said get the web site name, I said I have it.

NIDS: Okay. Yeah, thanks. Bye.
